According to existing practice, the new variety will undergo a “baptism” procedure with the participation of three godmothers at once: the Ambassador of France to Russia Madame Sylvie Bermann, the President of the festival Karina Lazareva and the representative of the French nursery Renault Tatyana Smirnova.

In 2018, Japan will participate in the Moscow festival for the first time. July 5 will be Japan's themed day at the festival, which will be attended by representatives of the embassy of this country.

On this day, there will be a tea ceremony from the masters of the famous Omote Senke school (one of the three main schools in Japan) with refreshments for everyone, master classes on sumi-e (drawing on rice paper) and creating temari balls, in educational program lectures on creating a Japanese garden will be included, and on one of the main alleys of Muzeon Park there will be japanese kimono made from fresh flowers.

This year, for the first time, two children’s projects are planned for MFS-2018 - “Gardens in Miniature” and “Planet of Flowers”. “Planet of Flowers” is a traditional competition for gardens made from children’s drawings; this year they were invited to create their own sketches of gardens on the theme “Dream Park”.

Second children's project— “Gardens in Miniature” is a new educational landscape program for schoolchildren from 9 to 15 years old, which started in Zaryadye Park in May of this year. Participants in the program study climate zones, viewpoints, analyze the symmetry of French gardens, learn how to plant gardens in glass flasks, and much more.

One of the brightest events of the summer 2018 is the VII Moscow International Festival of Gardens and Flowers Moscow Flower Show 2018. This year it was held from June 29 to July 8 at two venues: in the Muzeon Arts Park (on an area of almost 4 hectares) and in Zaryadye Park. The organizers could not ignore the theme of the World Cup in Russia, so several huge soccer balls made of flowers were displayed in the park.

The Moscow International Garden Festival brings together not only participants and professionals in the field of landscape design, floristry and architecture from all over the world, but also a rich business program, including lectures, master classes, meetings, a Park Forum and much more. At the International Park Forum, which will be held in Zaryadye, the participation of residents in the improvement of the city and their yards will be discussed.

As part of the Moscow Flower Show 2018, a national competition of landscape design and gardening among schoolchildren “Planet of Flowers” was held. Schoolchildren from all over Russia, aged from 6 to 17 years old, presented individual or group projects and a sketch on the theme “The City Through the Eyes of Children”, nomination “Dream Park” (1.5 m x 1.5 m). Based on the results of the qualifying round, 30 finalist gardens were built in the Muzeon Arts Park and took part in the finals of the competition.

On the stage of the Green Theater on June 29 at 15.00 there was a presentation of a new variety of hydrangea paniculata “Pearl of the Festival” `Renvagor` (the author of the variety is Jean Reno), the company Pépinières Renault. Within a year it will be sold exclusively on the Russian market!

The main theme of the Moscow Flower Show 2018 festival is “ Green Theater" Designers created their works in several categories:
– “Special projects”;
– “SHOW GARDEN”;
– “Gardens of Russia”;
– “Great Exhibition Garden”;
– “Small Exhibition Garden”;
– “New names”;
- “Trade stand”.

Two special projects were presented as part of the festival. One of them, “Garden about Sound,” was held with the support of Sidlip. Author: James-Alexander Sinclair – Chairman of the jury, judge of the Royal Society of Horticulturalists of Great Britain, TV presenter of the BBC channel (UK).

When we asked one of the participants which project he remembered most, he without hesitation named “Garden about Sound”! In general, the project causes children's delight! This is a garden that you don't hear, but see! “The composition is based on 6 simple containers with water, surrounded by airy and delicate meadow grasses, easily swaying in the wind. If you get closer, you can see how the water moves, creating ripples, whirlpools and waves. The secret of this effect is the speakers immersed in water, creating a resonance of waves of different frequencies. This is a combination of science, art, design,” is how the author himself describes the effect.

The second special project is “Francis of Assisi reads a sermon to the birds” by Anna Filimonova (France), dedicated to Marisol de la Tour d’Auvergne.

Princess Marie-Solle de la Tour d'Auvergne – President of the Jury children's competition“Planet of Flowers”, Vice-President of the Foundation for Support of Parks and Gardens of France .

The Renaissance water gardens are located in the landscape park of the Chateau d'Aisne-le-Vieille. Among the surviving ancient buildings there is a “meditation garden”, organized around the fresco “St. Francis of Assisi preaching a sermon to the birds.” This mural is a symbol of love for nature and animals and a tribute to four family members. In the “Special Project” nomination, the work “Garden of the Castle of Aine-le-Vieil” was presented - “The Saint of the Castle of Ene.

Nomination "Gardens of Russia" presented with completely different wonderful works! One of them is “VDNKh - with love”, author – Oksana Khleborodova. The concept was based on the theme of VDNKh reconstruction. This is a real fragment of the pavilion and a possible option for its landscape arrangement. The territory of the landscape industry pavilion “Floriculture and Gardening”, built in the 70s of the last century in the style of Soviet brutalism, still looks very modern, admiring its courage and innovation. For example, an untreated concrete surface with traces of formwork is today's trend. The connection between internal and external space through a series of architectural reservoirs, and the purpose of the exhibition is a call to take care of our cultural heritage.

Job "Beyond the seas, beyond the forests" authors: Olga Ozerova, Tatyana Dvoryadkina. Be sure to go inside, walk through the labyrinths of the fairy-tale cave, and feel like you are visiting a fairy tale! In the evening you can see the beautiful illumination of this composition.

Another work in this category is "Light. Movement. City", authors – Alexander Belyaev and Anna Gamurak from Belgorod. Just a paradise for an urbanist! The theme “Garden Theater” is revealed here as an illusion of movement, a shadow theater. The garden represents the city as a stage on which the action takes place. The movement is like a transition from the same type of stone buildings to living and blooming objects. As you move deeper into the object, pillars of light, shadows and mirrors begin to surround you, which allows you to create the illusion of movement and depth of space (this is how the authors describe their idea).

In the nomination "Show Garden" there are many memorable objects, one of them is the “Loft Suite” project, author - Evgeniya Russu (Russia) on the topic one-act ballet"Carmen Suite", presenting a modern interpretation classic work. The contrast between the post-industrial space and the exaggerated luxury of the theater is reflected in the combination of materials used, such as brick, metal, wood, textiles and mirrors. The space is divided into three zones: the entrance zone is a shady, torn alley from Irga Ballerina, located perpendicular to the direction of movement. The second is a relaxation area, an open area with sun loungers. And the third zone is a stylized bar.

Job "NATURE MIRROR" Claude Pasquier - landscape architect, sculptor, lecturer at the Versailles School of Landscape Engineering and Design - will be in uniform from a bird's eye view theatrical mask. But to understand where the intrigue lies, you need to go inside and find yourself in the looking glass of the theater or in a time portal. And become either a spectator or an actor among flowers and mirrors. All materials are recyclable. These are walls made of pallets and mirrors made of plastic bottles. The painted scenery canvases are landscapes from engravings by Jean Honore Fragonard.

On the central alley you will see the work of children who graduated from the landscape school “Zaryadye Park Lab” - miniature gardens in unique domed spheres. All the projects are wonderful, and the children who create such beauty are the future of our country. Not all works are presented in the photo gallery: there are a lot of them, but this does not mean that others are less interesting!

Wonderful work in the Small Exhibition Garden category "Alice Through the Looking Glass", by Olga Gyordi, will delight visitors with a hidden firecracker with water and a gravel chessboard.

Job "Dachnoe Tsaritsyno" the author Elena Chirkova was introduced to us by Olga Orzhekhovskaya from the Tsaritsyno development department. The word "dacha" appeared in Russian at the beginning of the 18th century. This was the name given to the lands donated by Peter I to his confidants for temporary buildings near St. Petersburg.

Shevchenko Vasily and Korbut Ekaterina presented the work "Sekitei Rock Garden", reflecting the symbolism of Zen Buddhism in the karesansui (dry landscape) style. There is a paradox hidden in Japanese gardens: being static, they carry enormous energy, symbols of yin and yang and universal harmony.

Another nomination with interesting works- “Trade stand”. An interesting interpretation of the theme “garden theater”, as a theater of military operations, for example, the composition “Battleship”, authors: Alexey Sayanov, Tatyana Kamanina, Anna Maksimova, Gnuni Andronik, Olesya Butserova. I was able to talk to them and find out how they interpret their composition. “Battleship” is a scene where the heroes of the theater of operations are modern materials used in landscape design, such as porcelain tiles or Corten steel planters. They fight for leadership, but the main characters of the play are living plants.

Another interesting project in this category CONCRETIKA GARDEN: RE-CREATION, authors - Buzhbetsky Alexey, Klevnova Svetlana, Andreiko Elizaveta, where main idea- this is to get away from visual and information noise and not to complicate things!

The project "Salad bowl"(authors: Natalya Smirnova and Violetta Sadovskaya) everyone wanted to take a photo - the composition of balls, ceramic heads and fish turned out to be so interesting. The very idea of a “garden theater” here is built on a play on words: a skit, a humorous performance and its funny name- “salad bowl”. Where the beds are an amphitheater, and the main characters are vegetables grown hydroponically.

Not included in any nomination, but very touching composition by Mels Gevorgyan made of hay with pastoral motifs. As the author said: “Mown grass (hay) gets a second life, comes to life in the hands of a master in his creations.” For children on the 29th, Mels will be conducting a master class on creating straw figurines all day long!

At the gala opening of the festival there was jazz music, great prizes were awarded, famous media personalities were present: Pavel Globa, Anastasia Myskina, Maria Golubkina, Ilona Bronevitskaya.

Main gardens of MFS-2018:

James Alexander-Sinclair "Listening garden/listening theatre"

Landscape fashion star, designer James Alexander-Sinclair is the chairman of the jury of the world's most prestigious Chelsea Flower Show, a favorite of the Queen of England and the permanent head of the jury of the Moscow festival. For the first time in Moscow he debuts with his garden and this is certainly the event of the year. The name of the garden immediately sets the audience in the right mood - the designer invites them to listen to the sounds of nature, to understand how eloquent the language of plants can be, how similar the play of chiaroscuro in the garden is to theatrical effects.

Paul Harvey Brooks. "Prometheus Garden"

Another famous Briton makes a direct reference to the myth of Prometheus in the name of his garden. Walking through the Paul Brooks Garden, visitors may find similarities to the landscape where mythical hero suffered torment for daring to give people fire and independence from the will of the gods.

Ozerova Olga, Dvoryadkina Tatyana. "Beyond the seas, beyond the forests"

The authors of this garden were inspired by the works of the Russian avant-garde artist Natalia Goncharova and, in particular, her sketches for the opera-ballet The Golden Cockerel. The garden is designed in burgundy, ocher and blue-gray palettes and transports visitors to a space of creativity and drama.

Oksana Khleborodova. "VDNH - with love"

The designer was inspired by the "Floriculture and Gardening" pavilion, built on main exhibition countries in the 70s. According to the author, the building delights her with its brutality and boldness of architectural thought. The garden is a fragment of the real environment of the pavilion and a possible option for its landscape arrangement.

Kordubaeva Maria, Noskova Oksana, Nikitina Anna. "Tea party in Sokolniki"

During the heyday of "tea shops" in Russia in late XIX century, “Falcon tea parties” became popular throughout Moscow. In the depths of the parks, so-called “offices” were built, where families came with their snacks, and the owners of the “offices” provided them with a hot samovar and a kettle.

Lazareva Tatyana, Smirnova Tatyana. "Grain De Perle"

Garden-tribute to the “people's countess” Praskovya Zhemchugova. 2018 marks exactly 250 years since her birth. Amazing story The love between the serf actress and Count Sheremetyev became the basis for the creation of this garden. In the 18th century, French regular gardens with their symmetrical alleys, classic rectangular pond and decorative sculptures were very popular in Russia. "Grain De Perle" pays tribute to the romantic era and great history love.

Kravchenko Diana, Razevskaya Evelina. "Diving into Sleep"

One of the most unusual works at the Moscow Flower Show festival. The mystical atmosphere of the garden is created by the concept of refraction of space and the use of wood, stones and light-reflecting materials.

Leontyeva Lydia. "Partisan"

The dominant feature of this composition is the sculpture of a partisan girl who stood up to defend her Motherland. The garden is a floral boulengrin in the traditional contrasting colors of the Stalinist Empire style. A unique element of the garden is the lanterns, recreated according to the design of the architect Dmitry Chechulin.
