Rita Ora - about love, a new album and arrival in Russia. Rita Ora - biography and personal life

SNCMedia: Hello! Congratulations on the upcoming release of your new album with Warner Music. How do you feel about this?

Rita Ora: Oh thank you! I also can’t believe that such difficult work has been left behind. I worked with many interesting and talented people from Boston and London during the recording of the album. I don’t know how others will appreciate it, but I myself am very pleased with how it turned out, I gave it my 100%.

SNCMedia: The album is still on the way, but I have already listened to the first single, Your Song, and it is truly a song worth the wait. How would you describe her?

Rita: When I write a song, it's a kind of therapy for me, so I try to open up completely. This single was no exception.

SNCMedia: But the song is about love, about mutual love and therefore endlessly pleasant. Were you in love when you recorded it?

Rita: Well, sorry, this is a personal question! I will say this: I was in love with life!

SNCMedia: I heard that Ed Sheeran himself had a hand in some of the recordings. What was it like working with him and can we expect any collaborations between you and him?

Rita: This album is primarily dedicated to my work, and not to other stars. But working with Ed was fun. And of course, I was charged with his talent and creativity. When you work with such people, you feel incredible pride.

SNCMedia: You are lucky to work with talented people! Here's Tyra Banks on America's Next Top Model ( Rita was the host in the 23rd season of the program, if anything) managed to grab...

Rita: Tyra is a legend in the flesh. She taught me to be comfortable in front of the camera and never lose my sense of confidence. This show gave me a lot of new things, so it was especially sad to leave.

SNCMedia: I think you weren’t sad for long, because you’ve already been a host in another reality show that just started showing on ABC. This Boy Band show is about the creation of a new boy band.

Rita: This show is about making dreams come true. And it’s also nice to take part in it because Nick Carter, Timbaland and Emma Bunton are on the jury. Believe me, these guys know how to dig up a diamond and reveal all the facets of his talent.

SNCMedia: And your talent (another one) is stylish outfits. And few of your images are ignored; you are always commented on. How do you feel? And how do you answer to haters?

Rita: Well, yes, this happens. But the best policy here is not to respond and ignore such things.

SNCMedia:? And will you please the Russian army of fans with your concert?

Rita: The fans are my everything, I’m ready to do anything for them. So I want to thank them again for their support and confess my love. In November I’m going on a tour in support of the new album and will definitely stop by Russia. No details yet, but you're definitely on my list!

The personal life of singer Rita Ora has always been eventful. After a scandalous breakup with DJ Calvin Harris, she began an affair with the son of American designer Tommy Hilfiger, Ricky Hill, and, according to rumors, was going to marry him, but a year later they broke off the relationship. After this, Rita dated drummer Travis Barker, but only for three weeks. The singer's new boyfriend is Andrew Watt, the ex-guitarist of the California Breed band, who plays hard rock music. True, Rita confirmed her affair with him only now, after more than a year of relationship.

Andrew Watt and Rita Ora

Rita was indirectly inspired to do this by the Irish mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor. On past ceremony delivery p at The Fashion Awards, Conor and Rita sat at the same table and communicated too nicely and closely - according to eyewitnesses. After photos of celebrities published by the media, Rita was criticized for flirting with a married athlete, who gave birth to a son in May this year. The singer, instead of direct excuses, first published on Instagram page photo with her boyfriend Andrew, accompanied by a caption in the form of heart emoticons and thereby confirming rumors about their romance.

The first visit of Jay-Z's young ward to Russia, as well as conversations about music, film roles and the Russian language.

On October 27, one of the most interesting musical events in the capital took place - for the first time, the star of the British charts, fashionista and beauty Rita Ora came to Russia. The concert, organized with the support of HP and Universal Music Russia, took place on the stage of the Moscow GlavClub. By the way, not everyone could attend the event, but only those who bought the brand’s equipment within the specified period (from September 1 to October 26) or participated in one of the official competitions.

Before the concert, Rita spoke at a press conference with the participation of Alexey Voronkov, vice president, director of the personal systems and printing devices group at HP in Russia, and Dmitry Konnov, general director of Universal Music Russia. Well, since Rita does not speak Russian, Ilya Buts, a former editor-in-chief Russian edition of Billboard magazine, and currently – director of new business at Universal Music Russia, TV presenter at Europe Plus TV. The singer spoke about her participation in the Eurovision qualifying round from the UK, as well as how she began music career. It is interesting that Rita is a native of Yugoslavia, but almost immediately after her birth, her family moved to the British capital. And Rita’s mother, having lived in Moscow for 5 years, speaks excellent Russian. “So when my parents fight, they do it in Russian.”“, the singer jokes. Ora also spoke about her collaboration with the Adidas brand, with artists, and also lifted the veil of secrecy about her new film: “I can’t tell you yet what kind of film it is and what it’s called. But this is not 50 Shades of Gray, no"- Rita laughs, - “This is a film about a boxer. And it will be a big surprise for everyone."

On at the moment The singer is working on a new album, which she says should show what she's really made of, and is also taking part in the British show "the Voice".

By the way, Rita’s artistic life is indeed very eventful. And in Russia, long before the concert, real hype was created around the singer’s visit itself. Therefore, on the day of the concert itself, the hall was packed to capacity, and while DJ Simon warmed up the hall, middle school students squealed with happiness under the stage, and journalists from the most relevant and fashionable media hung out in the VIP zone: GQ, YES!, TimeOut Moscow, etc. the stars also came to the concert Russian show business: Yana Churikova, Victoria Daineko, Dzhigan, Mitya Fomin, Alexandra Balakireva, Yulianna Karaulova, Elvira T and others.

The performance itself lasted a little over an hour, but during this time fans heard all their favorite compositions, including "Black Widow", "Shine Ya Light", "Hot Right Now" and of course "I will never you down." Even during the press conference, Rita was asked about her attitude to the fact that sexual overtones in songs are becoming more and more vivid, to which the singer replied that “It’s a private matter for everyone whether to show their butt to the public or not”. Although, I must admit, Rita has it – just right. In general, it is worth noting that all her comparisons with Rihanna and Beyoncé appeared for a reason. Dark skin, appetizing shapes, a beautiful, pleasant voice and incredible confidence in one’s own sexuality - high-quality commercial pop, within which, it seems, a certain format has already been built. But Rita is still not the second Rihanna and not the third Beyoncé. Rita Ora is Rita Ora, if only because she is British of Albanian origin. She definitely has her own personality, which helped her successfully stand among the American beauties and take her place in the music world.

Here in Russia, Rita has an incredible army of young fans who will grow up with her. Which will await her second album, and third, and fourth. She will love or dislike her musical experiments, will copy her style and manner of dressing, and will also look forward to her next visit to the country with a full-fledged show program.

It is worth noting that this is not the first such concert organized on the initiative of HP, which annually invite the most popular artists to the capital according to users of the HP Connected Music platform. Last year, for example, the Americans Far East Movement visited Moscow. Well, now another star is taking over the baton from Rita Ora, whose name is still being kept secret...

Yulia Antonova, specially for MUSECUBE

Your career in music happened so quickly - it seems like everything happened in one day. Are you so good at feeling musical trends? Maybe you yourself tried to find an explanation for this?

Yes, and everything is going very smoothly. But there were probably many funny and awkward incidents that accompanied your path to fame.

There was so much! Just remember my outfits! They weren't always amazing. I was very upset about some of my images, although in general I don’t regret anything in my life. But sometimes I look back at who I was and think, “Maybe...I shouldn't have worn that?” Everything comes with experience. I started performing live when I was 18 years old. I'm turning 24 in November, and thanks to the experiences I've gained over the years, I've learned how to behave on stage and how I should interact with my team. It's an industry where you get better with experience. So you need to have patience. Perhaps I was quite patient at the beginning of my career.

What other difficulties did you have to deal with at the beginning?

You know, like all girls, I feel insecure and am aware of the risks. But when I go on stage, nothing matters to me anymore. Just as some people love to read, others love to design clothes, you journalists love to write, I love to be on stage. Nothing matters here anymore; here I feel most comfortable. I would feel more shy in the bedroom than on stage!

Popular

How did you come to the image that has become familiar to you both on stage and in life? Did any of your mentors in the industry help you develop it?

Fortunately, I could always choose what to wear. I've always had a lot of freedom when it comes to my image. Sometimes it turns out to be a crazy outfit, sometimes it doesn't. But I feel very comfortable in each of my looks. I'm kind of proud of what I put on my body. You've probably noticed that I'm very supportive of designers, and that's because it takes so much effort from them to create a collection! And this is a very big responsibility, because they are the ones who allow people to choose what to wear. They make people feel sexy, beautiful, make them feel comfortable, make them like themselves. It's the same in music - you want people to feel good. I like designers who make me feel that way. I also respect designers who express support for me. The fashion industry treats me with warmth, and I am very grateful to the people in it for that. This creates a balance - you support them, they support you. Music and fashion have never been as close as they are now. Musicians become the faces of brands. I was the face of Roberto Cavalli, Donna Karan, DKNY, Miley Cyrus was the face of Marc Jacobs, Lady Gaga was the face of Versace. As you can see, music and fashion have begun to converge. This is very cool!

What about collaborating with other artists? You like duets as much as solo performances?

Yes, I really like singing duets. There's nothing better than two musicians working together. They connect pieces of different worlds, which they are. It brings amazing feelings.

How do you choose the projects you want to work on in music, fashion and other areas?

I have an excellent team. My sister works with me as a manager, so the family is also involved in everything that happens to me. I am confident in my opinion, I trust my team. These people have been with me from the very beginning. We make decisions together, we think about what will suit us.

My main source of inspiration is people who are daring, people with character, people who are not afraid of risks. When I was growing up, my role models were women like Beyoncé, Diana Ross, Cher, Tina Turner, Madonna, Gwen Stefani. I love divas. They had so many things they wanted to tell the world. They take great pride in what they stand for. Some supported the LGBT community, some supported the fashion industry, some supported the world of music. They spoke their minds as loudly as they could. And when you are in the center of attention, when people are listening to you, when you know that this will not go unnoticed, you need to try to make the most of it. That's what they did. This is exactly why I respected my idols. I also forgot to name Freddie Mercury from Queen. These people stand out from the rest to me.

What do you stand for? What are you ready to convince people who listen and hear you?

Of course, first of all, I support music and those who go through life with it. I'm all for live performances. I would do anything to encourage people to physically attend the shows because nothing compares to that! Nowadays, for us artists, there is nothing better than seeing crowds of people coming to concerts. Plus, I really support charity. My mother had breast cancer and now, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I am supporting breast cancer initiatives. I've been doing this for many years. In general, every person has a voice, and you should try to use it in a positive way.

What music can be found in your playlist in ordinary life? Surely not only pop.

Yes! In fact, I like them all musical styles. In general, I really like music. I always really liked country music, for example, these songs could play endlessly on my player. Who have I been listening to recently? It was Jessie Ware, she recently released new album. Jessie is very good. In general, I listen to what makes me feel good. Remember the famous James Brown quote: “Do you like it? Then what the hell difference does it make!”

What music inspired you at the beginning of your career?

The first CD I bought was the Spice Girls album. My sister and I loved them very much. I also grew up listening to the songs of No Doubt, which was becoming increasingly popular at the time and was very important to me personally. Then I started loving hip-hop - Mary J. Blige, Jay Z and others. I was very lucky - my parents allowed me to listen to such music.

Now you have already achieved a lot. Can you imagine what would be the pinnacle of success for you?

I think I will be one of those artists who will never be able to understand that they have reached the top. I think one day my friends will tell me: “Sit down. Rita, you really are already old. It's time to stop." However, I hope that I will have friends who will be there for me and will be able to tell me that I should quit this activity. But there are people like Madonna. She still plays music with passion. In fact, it doesn't really matter how old you are. Madonna is now 56 and preparing to release a new album. Fortunately, it seems to me, there is no time limit. You can sing and perform for as long as you can physically stand.

Do you think you will change the direction of your music in the future?

Yes, I think I'll change something later. I don’t want to be 60 years old and be half naked on stage. Let's see what I can do then!

It depends on how you look.

Yes, it all depends on this, Madonna can perform like that! I can probably do it too if I'm in the same shape. Let's see! Ask me when I'm 60.

Let's ask! But let's return to today. How do you like this life on the road? Do you like touring? How do you prepare for performing in front of an audience? different countries?

I love live performances. The reason I started singing is precisely because nothing brings me such pleasure as being on stage. That's why I take my shows extremely seriously. Now I am rehearsing performances for new songs, in the Moscow show I will sing one that has not yet been presented to anyone. And I will definitely return to Russia when I go on my world tour!

Where else would you like to give a concert?

I've never been to India, I'd like to see what it's like to perform there. I have never given concerts in Mexico, except once on vacation there. I want to go everywhere! I want to see a lot, learn a lot about different cultures. By the way, I really like Russian culture, it is very interesting.

Have you already watched anything here in Moscow?

Not yet. My mother studied here for five years. So she speaks Russian fluently, but as a child I heard it and didn’t understand anything. She even swore at me in Russian. I grew up and thought: “You’re telling me off in Russian!” How so?!” But it sounded scary.

Interesting...
I want to know everything that happens in the lives of stars.
