We wondered: where does she get her information from? There was no Internet back then, but she seemed to know everything about music. I am grateful to my vocal teacher Natalya Nikolaevna Berzhinskaya, and to everyone who taught me. I congratulate the entire college staff on their anniversary and wish them new ones creative success and talented students.

A journey of almost 140 years

Date of birth of the college: November 12, 1873, opening day music classes at the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the Imperial Russian Musical Society. The founder and first director of the classes was a graduate of the Moscow Conservatory, Vasily Yulievich Villuan (1850 - 1922), a student of P.I. Tchaikovsky and N.G. Rubinstein. Among the graduates of music classes are: outstanding musicians S.Lyapunov, G.Ginzburg, I.Dobrovein, A.Krein.

In 1907, music classes were reorganized into a music school. Immediately after 1918, the educational institution changed its name more than once: the People's Conservatory, the State Conservatory, the University of Music, the music and then the music and theater college, and again the music school (1937). The school received college status in 2003.

In the 20s of the twentieth century, which became the era of the rise of musical enlightenment and mass music education, teachers and students organized numerous concerts and opera performances. It was their performances that were regularly heard on the waves of the Nizhny Novgorod radio that had begun to operate. And the famous graduates of those years were B. Mokrousov, the author of the “Sormovskaya Lyrical”, and A. Tsfasman, a composer, pianist, one of the first jazzmen in our country. In the mid-1930s. Graduates and teachers of the music school formed the basis of the opera house and philharmonic orchestra created in the city. And during the years of the Great Patriotic War performed as part of concert teams. When the conservatory opened in Gorky, the core of its teaching staff was formed by the teachers of the school - A.A. Kasyanov, N.N. Poluektova, A.L. Lazerson, M.V. Tropinskaya, S.V. Polyakova.

On its 100th anniversary in 1973, the school was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor, and some time later received the name M.A. Balakireva. The turn of the 20th - 21st centuries was marked by the emergence of the school’s activities at the international level - student victories at European music competitions, admission of graduates to foreign universities.

From generation to generation

The continuity of performing and pedagogical schools, the transfer of experience and skill can be observed in the work of all departments of the college. Thus, the founder of the Nizhny Novgorod pianistic school was N.N. Poluektova, student of V.Yu. Willuana. In turn, her student, the RF SAM T.S. Brodskaya headed the piano department of the music school for many years. In 1993, N.N. became the head of the department. Fish. Every year students N.N. Fish become scholarship recipients of the New Names charity program. Since 2011, the piano department has been headed by student N.N. Fish, laureate of international competitions A.N. Bogdanovich.

String classes bowed instruments existed at the Nizhny Novgorod College of Music from the very moment of its foundation. Graduates of music classes and then the college joined the ranks of symphony orchestras: the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the IRMO, in Soviet era– orchestras of the Philharmonic and Opera House. Solo artistic and teaching career of graduates string department often turns out well. They work at the Nizhny Novgorod Conservatory and other music universities, colleges in different cities, music schools, and play in the best orchestras country and world. But the special concern of string teachers and their students is young musicians. Yesterday's students come to their music schools. They are regularly organized open lessons, festivals and competitions: competition-festival “Singing Bow”, regional competition ensembles “Music Made Friends”, etc.

Solo singing in music classes They began teaching at the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the IRMO in 1875. The foundations of the Nizhny Novgorod professional singing school were laid by L.K. Rabus, graduate of the Moscow Conservatory. When the Opera and Ballet Theater opened in Gorky in 1935, graduates of the vocal department immediately formed its troupe. Having received stage experience in their native theater, the vocalists passed it on to to the younger generation. College vocal teachers can be seen on the jury of international and all-Russian competitions; they help music schools in their work in children's vocal departments. And the singing of students invariably brightens up concerts both within the college’s own walls and at various city venues.

Not a single special event has long been complete without the participation of wind instruments: fanfares thunder in honor of the winners, welcome important guests, and create a festive atmosphere. Therefore, graduates of the brass department and percussion instruments can be heard everywhere. In brass, symphony orchestras, orchestras opera houses and philharmonic societies, and not only in Nizhny Novgorod. Also V.Yu. Villuan understood how much the city needed brass players. And he made a lot of efforts to open brass classes in Nizhny. In 1908, a flute class appeared, and in 1914, a trumpet class. In 1918, professor from Moscow S.V. began teaching at the People's Conservatory. Rozanov (clarinet). This is how the department of wind instruments gradually developed. Now the department is actively involved in organizing and conducting the “Sounds of Hope” competition for young wind instrument performers.

In the 1920s and 30s, three departments of the college were formed: folk instruments, choral conducting and music theory. The initial steps of the people's secession are closely connected with the name of I.K. Buchinsky - member of the famous orchestra V.V. Andreeva. After the war, teachers and students of the department raised musical work in regional villages, they developed an amateur art movement. Graduates join the teaching staff Russian universities. Only at the Nizhny Novgorod Conservatory do professors M.Yu. Kotomin and Yu.E. Gurevich, associate professors V.N. Mityakov and A.A. Petropavlovsky, teachers R.Sh. Mamedkuliev and A.V. Shalin.

The first student conductors studied under the guidance of P.I. Armashev is a graduate of the St. Petersburg Conservatory. One of the first graduates of the department, V.P. Malyshev organized the world-famous Nizhny Novgorod Boys' Choir. In Nizhny Novgorod you can find the names of students of the conducting and choral department everywhere: rector of the Nizhny Novgorod Conservatory (Academy) named after. M.I. Glinka, professor, ZDI RF E.B. Fertelmeister, chief conductor Nizhny Novgorod academic theater Opera and Ballet named after. A.S. Pushkina E.B. Sheiko, teachers of the conservatory, chapel, music schools, directors of famous choirs. Among several hundred graduates of the department - folk artists Russia: the legendary leader of the chapel, Professor L.K. Sivukhin, artistic director and chief conductor of the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Nizhny Novgorod Philharmonic A.M. Skulsky. The current director of the college, ZRK RF, Professor S.I. Smirnov is also a graduate of the conducting and choral department.

The theoretical department arose in 1938. It was founded by T.I. Agrinskaya, who graduated from the Leningrad Conservatory. Famous graduates of the department - T.N. Levaya (Doctor of Art History, Professor of the M.I. Glinka National Oil and Gas Conservatory), V.B. Valkova (Doctor of Art History, Professor of the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music), Director of the Nizhny Novgorod Academic Philharmonic named after M.L. Rostropovich, ZDI RF O.N. Tomina.

The pop department of the school, opened in 1981, employs graduates of academic music universities. At the same time, they have considerable experience working in pop groups. Therefore, from the very beginning there is an attitude, on the one hand, towards professionalism, and on the other hand, all methodological developments are based on live pop music playing.

In 1972, a Studio of Pedagogical Practice was created at the Gorky Music School. Since September 1989, the studio received the status of a Children's music school at the school, which in 2006 was transformed into the children's music department of the college. Currently, children here are studying strings, winds, folk instruments and piano.

A special area of activity of the DMO is a complex of educational sessions with blind children on the basis of the Regional Correctional School of Type III - IV named after. N.A. Ostrovsky, where the branch has existed since 1993. This area of work, promoting the professional and social rehabilitation of disabled children, was highly appreciated by the music community: the department was awarded the 2nd prize at All-Russian competition"Balakirev Project - 2006" in Moscow.

Spiritual unity

The rich teaching traditions that have developed at the college accumulate the best achievements of domestic music pedagogy. But educational process For musicians it is inseparable from creativity. Quality vocational training We can see and evaluate students “in action” - on stage, at a concert. College teachers and students give dozens of concerts a year. Particularly significant concerts are the “Musical Meetings”, which continue the glorious traditions laid down by V.Yu. Villuan. The ideological inspirer of the “Musical Meetings” is the curator of the college museum, musicologist and local historian, ZRK RF S.V. Kazak, and one of the main organizers is the director of the college S.I. Smirnov. This academic year, the college held two “Musical Meetings” dedicated to major memorable dates: 150th anniversary of the beginning of the New Russian School of Composers and 175th anniversary of the birth of M.A. Balakireva. At these large concerts, the imperishable music of Russian classics sounded - Glinka, Balakirev, Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Borodin, each time making us feel again the greatness of our musical culture, the depth and strength of its spirit. The cathedral nature of such concerts, where the college really “gets together” as a single whole (teachers and students, soloists and groups on one stage), allows you to feel a special spiritual unity, which is very significant in our difficult times with its powerful destructive tendencies.

Reviewing the entire history of the Nizhny Novgorod Music College, you understand that it was no coincidence that it began to bear the name M.A. Balakireva. The life's work of our great fellow countryman was the creation and development of Russian musical culture and music education. We see the same thing in the work of entire generations of college teachers. This is their life's work. This is our business – to preserve and enhance the priceless heritage.
