Stars come in different "sizes". They all have their own character, according to which they are more or less willing to be frank, if they agree to an interview at all.

Therefore, the first advice for novice reporters is general: find out how friendly the interviewee is towards the journalistic fraternity in general, whether he has any precedents that made him hate all representatives of the media without exception.

And one more thing should be taken into account: less popular stars, if you can call them such, are more willing to agree to a meeting and conversation (of course, this is a good chance for them to promote themselves!) and more openly answer provocative interview questions that were not prepared by a journalist lacking professional ambition.

Broad or narrow topic?

Members of the “star clan” are also representatives various fields activities (or influence): show business, business in the traditional sense, politics, science. Therefore, interview questions should be classified according to the type of activity of the person with whom the conversation is planned.

In modern journalism, there is a tendency towards simplification, which is expressed in the fact that the entire conversation is based on family and everyday issues: who a person is married to, how many children he has, where he goes on vacation, when he renovated his apartment.

This format is acceptable only for publications on a certain topic. For example, a magazine specializing in covering the topics of design and renovation asks a medical luminary in great detail about the interior of his newly renovated apartment, and a newspaper conventionally called “Family and Marriage” asks the famous opera tenor his personal life.

As a rule, a wide range of issues affecting both the professional and personal lives of celebrities are prepared by journalists from women's publications. They present interviews with stars in the most non-standard formats in order to further interest readers both in the hero of the publication and in their magazine.

One thing to note important detail: the reader will be interested in learning about the interviewee’s wife, breakfast dish, and pajama color only if we're talking about about an absolute celebrity. And if the publication is dedicated rising star, the emphasis should be on creativity.

Catch it, star, big and small

Stars known throughout the world, throughout the country, in one region and city celebrities... Which of these people would a reporter be more willing to interview? The most extraordinary and bright, and it is not so important what scale of popularity the star managed to gain.

The readership may become bored with endless conversations on various topics with the same celebrity. Even publications require “fresh blood”, or rather, fresh non-standard judgments, an open-minded point of view, new faces in the end.

If a celebrity manages to keep himself in shape, answer the most unexpected questions witty and untrained, then such a star will not get bored of fans for a long time and will “shine” due to his ability to communicate.

Predictability is the main trap of experienced celebrities into which they drive themselves during interviews.

Stars without “experience” have another problem - the fear of saying something wrong. Because of this, the public often loses interest in them before they even have time to gain it.

Interviews with stars of various sizes should be tailored according to their scale, the audience's interest in them, or, if included in a PR campaign, the goals pursued by the celebrity being interviewed and her producer.

Types of interviews

This fertile genre of journalism allows you to reveal the versatility of a person’s character with the help of one successful phrase, one apt word. But it is also divided into subgenres - each type of interview is designed to meet a specific task:

  • informational- a tough, concise, laconic type of conversation with a socially significant person, giving answers to pressing questions;
  • blitz- short answers to clearly stated short questions; as an example: TV presenter Zhanna Badoeva was recently forced to very quickly, almost without thinking, answer the 50 most unusual questions; there is a type of blitz interview - laconic answers to the same question;
  • analytical- in addition to receiving answers to specific questions, it also contains an analysis of the fact; designed to understand motives and consequences;
  • portrait- a way of creating an image of a person through a conversation with him; this type of interview is usually carried out with famous representatives of cinema, pop performers and other famous personalities.

How to prepare for a conversation?

Even an experienced journalist will not go to an interview without first studying the biography, creativity, and nuances associated with the personal life of the interlocutor. Interview questions should also be prepared the day before and weighed very carefully.

The second stage of preparation is to rehearse each phrase, preferably out loud, so that during a conversation you can pronounce the words clearly, distinctly and without hesitation - this is especially important if you are conducting an interview on camera.

The third stage is the psychological attitude. All the positive things that are available must be demonstrated to the respondent, otherwise the spoiled stars will not even want to look in the direction of the journalist, suspecting something is wrong.

Radiating goodwill is a necessary condition, even if the reporter has a couple of tricky questions that are unloved by most stars: how are your current attitude with exes? Who is to blame for the fact that there was an embarrassment on stage and your strap broke? Why is there an opinion that you refused to support your young children?

Don't say "yes" or "no"!

The basic rule of any interview is not to allow the respondent to use short, definitive “yes” or “no” answers. To avoid this, it is necessary to use only open, wide, and most importantly - interesting questions for an interview. An experienced professional can always ensure that the interlocutor wants to answer in more than one word.

First - warm up

Journalists call warm-up the stage when they try to get their interlocutor to talk - the first two or three questions. You should not immediately attack the respondent in order to snatch the essence of the conversation from him. They move towards the main question gradually, asking a couple of minor ones first. The main question is the third or fourth in a row.

An excellent technique to tune your interlocutor into the desired wavelength is to tell him an anecdote or a funny story or joke.

Many aspiring journalists are hesitant about preparing funny interview questions. They will be appropriate only under certain circumstances: if the conversation was ordered by an entertainment magazine or portal, if funny interviews are the journalist’s signature style, if the respondent is a representative of the humorous genre.

A well-formed question is...

Successfully prepare interview questions - This is a whole art that needs to be polished at every opportunity, with every new conversation. But there is one sure-fire way to construct questions correctly: they should begin with the words “how,” “why,” “how much,” “why,” “for what purpose.” This form will allow the respondent to think and answer as fully and comprehensively as possible.

"Don't interrupt me!"

A real journalist is always “on hand” with a lot of questions on the same topic, which he hurries to ask with the goal of writing “the world’s largest and most meaningful” interview. No matter how tempting it may be to attack the respondent with a record number of questions, you should not interrupt his answer, no matter how long it may seem to you.

Only after the interlocutor has put an intonation point in the previous answer, demand the next one from him.

By the way, you can study (listen) what questions other journalists ask during interviews: perhaps the answer has already been answered and should not be duplicated.

Fantasy in blackout

An interview is a fact-based genre, so there is no need to think anything out for the interlocutor and attribute to him something that he did not say (this, by the way, can lead to litigation).

For truly unexpected and interesting interview questions, you can get the same unexpected and shocking answer, to which there will be nothing to add.

Three pillars of a good interview

The conversation should be of interest, and all interview participants should be satisfied with its outcome - that is, with the results of the publication. To use all the possibilities of the genre, you need to remember the three basics of a successful interview:

  1. Thought. Before you invite a person to a conversation, think about why it is necessary.
  2. Personality. Treat the interviewee with respect not only because he is a star, but, above all, because he is a person, and refrain from asking stupid or offensive questions.
  3. Interest. The content of your conversation should be interesting not only for two people - the journalist and the star, but also for a wide readership.

And one more thing: in order to captivate the reader in the interview, the questions and answers in it should not be oversaturated with specific terminology and should not be too long and confusing.

How much does it cost to talk?

Famous people never give interviews away for nothing. For example, Marat Basharov, after divorcing his wife, was ready to sell this “tear-jerking” personal story to the press for no less than 20 thousand euros. Having learned such a “price”, not a single publication decided to conduct an interview with the actor.

Real celebrities are ready to be frank only for a certain amount, and there are some originals who, for a fee, even share their creative plans and everything related to their professional activities.

Others demand ready-made material for approval, and upon receiving it, they begin to be capricious: “This is not what I said, this is not accurate.” Funny interview questions are answered with the remark: not for publication, and they are very offended if the phrase is published. It almost comes to court and a public apology from the journalist.

These celebrities are complex and unpredictable people, and it is not an easy task to interview them. But at the risk of reputation, professional equipment and sometimes health, journalists take it for the sake of their readers.
