Editorial and Publishing Department of USFTU Department of Operational Printing of USFTU Electronic Archive of USFTU General provisions In accordance with the program of the course “Technology and machines for logging operations”, direction 250400.62 (35.03.02) “Technology of logging and wood processing industries”, it is planned to study in laboratory classes the designs of logging machines and mechanisms, diagrams and technologies for their use for performing logging operations. Students during execution laboratory work must:

Study various logging technologies;

Study the purpose and design of logging machines and mechanisms;

Learn to draw up schemes for performing operations;

Learn to calculate the technological parameters of the operation of logging machines and equipment.

When performing laboratory work, students prepare an individual team report.

The main objectives of the guidelines:

1) theoretical training students in the course being studied and acquiring skills in practical application acquired knowledge;

2) preparation for execution course work in the discipline “Technology and machines for logging work” and the technological part of the final qualifying work.

Before starting to study the discipline, the student must listen to a theoretical course of lectures on the disciplines “Theory of transportation and processing operations”, “Forest harvesting technology abroad”.

In addition, the student must know the basic concepts associated with forestry technology and equipment; definitions, classification of logging operations; principles of formation of machine systems; apply skills in calculating the performance of machines and mechanisms; have an understanding of the technological processes of logging operations and the design of logging equipment.

General instructions for performing laboratory work During laboratory classes, a group of students is divided into teams of 3-4 people in such a way that there are no more than 10-13 people for each lesson leader.

After studying the operations, machines or mechanisms being performed, you must independently draw up a technical specification, provide a drawing or technological diagram of the work, and receive from the teacher an assignment with the initial data for calculating the shift productivity of the equipment.

A report on the work done is submitted to the teacher before performing the next laboratory work.

Topic: “Tree felling: gas-powered chain saws, feller buncher, harvester”

Questions to study:

1. The concept of the “forestry felling” operation.

3. Apiary development schemes:

Using a gas-powered saw (narrow apiary, medium apiary, wide apiary technologies);

Using a feller buncher (single-belt, two-belt, three-belt methods, VPM operation schemes);

Using a harvester (when placing the drag on the border and in the middle of the apiary, with entries into half-apiaries, with an auxiliary corridor).

4. Determine the shift productivity of a chainsaw and a feller buncher for felling forests and compare them with the corresponding production standards Nvyr (ENiR).

The shift productivity of a gas-powered saw is calculated using the formula T Qhl P s0 s2, tп where T is the shift time, s;

Qhl – volume of the log, m3;

c0 – coefficient taking into account the costs of preparing the workplace and transitions from tree to tree (c0 = 0.15...0.8);

с2 – working time utilization factor (с2 = 0.8…0.9);

tп – time of cutting down one tree;

–  –  –

where N is the power of the saw motor, kW (N = 4.4);

– transmission efficiency from the engine to the saw chain (= 0.92);

– coefficient of friction between the chain and the tire (= 0.1);

Рн – pushing force of the worker, N (Рн = 16…20);

ao – coefficient depending on the sharpness of the chain teeth (ao = 0.6...1).

–  –  –

Q0 104 a(lmax (lmax lmin))M, where Q0 is the volume of the package formed by the machine from one parking lot, m3;

a is a coefficient that takes into account the operating conditions of the machine (when developing a lane on one side of the machine a=1, on both sides a=2);

M – forests per 1 hectare, m3;

lmax, lmin – maximum and minimum reach of the machine manipulator boom, m;

–  –  –

where tc – cycle time, s;

t1 – guidance and delivery of the harvester unit to the tree, s;

t2 – clamping of the harvester unit levers, s;

t3 – tree felling, s;

t4 – pruning of branches, s;

t5 – bucking of logs;

t6 – moving from one technological parking lot to another per one tree, p.

t1, t2, t3, t4, t5, t6 are determined by measuring their duration using a stopwatch.

5. Basic provisions on felling safety for each type of equipment.

–  –  –

Topic: “Pruning: delimbing machines, gas-powered saws”

Questions to study:

1. The concept of the “limbing” operation.

2. Brief description and the purpose of the equipment used.

3. Schemes for cleaning branches in the upper warehouse, in the apiary.

4. Determine the shift productivity of machines and mechanisms when performing an operation and compare with the production rate Nvyr (ENiR).

–  –  –

5. Basic methods of disposal of logging residues.

6. Basic safety regulations when pruning branches for each type of equipment.

–  –  –

Questions to study:

1. Classification of machine systems used:

1.1. VPM+Skidder+Processor

1.2. Harvester+Forwarder

1.3. Forvester

2. Professions of workers and their job responsibilities

3. Methods for developing apiaries

4. Performance calculation:

4.1. Harvester

Calculate harvester productivity:

–  –  –

where Tcm – work shift time, min.; tp – regulated downtime, min (15...30 min); Vhl – average volume of the log, m3; tc – cycle time, min.

The cycle time consists of the time of pointing and delivering the harvester head to the tree, clamping the levers of the harvester head, sawing and felling the tree, trimming branches, bucking the logs, moving from one technological station to another per tree.

–  –  –

4.2. Forwarder Calculate the maximum possible volume of assortment moved by the forwarder, depending on the load capacity and reach of the manipulator:

–  –  –

where Тm = 145 kNm – lifting moment, b – coefficient expressing the relationship between the load capacity and the reach of the manipulator;

y = 800 kg/m 3 – wood density; g = 9.81 kgm/s2 – free fall acceleration.

–  –  –

where Tcm – work shift time, min; tp – regulated downtime, min. (15...30 min); Vpack – average volume of a pack of transported assortments, m3; tc – cycle time, min.

–  –  –

Topic: “Wood skidding with tractors”

Tractors with choker equipment, with a manipulator, skiders, forwarders

Questions to study:

1. Brief description of the operation.

2. Brief description of the purpose of the equipment used.

3. Tractor operation patterns, skidding conditions.

4. Determine the shift productivity of tractors and compare it with the production rate Nvir (ENiR):

–  –  –

where Vп, Vш, V1у, Vу – the speed of the tractor in the corresponding gears from the technical characteristics of the base tractor, km/h.

The cart collection time tc and the cart uncoupling time t0 are accepted according to ENViR and depend on the average volume and type of skidder within 12...32 minutes for TT-4, TT-4M, TDT-55, TDT-55A.

Pack uncoupling time t0 for chokerless tractors is 0.15…0.25 min.

Pack collection time tsb with chokerless tractors LT-154, LT-157, LT-171, LT-89 – 1.0…2.5 min; LP-18B, LP-18A, TB-1, TB-1M – 2.0...3.0 min per 1 m3 of treble pack.

–  –  –

If the condition Fk Fsc is met, i.e. there is no slipping of the tractor with a bundle of timber, we substitute Psm of the tractor into the productivity formula smallest value Qmin.

Calculate forwarder performance:

–  –  –

where a is the width of the apiary, 12...15 m;

q – wood supply, m3/ha;

p – share of harvested stock, 0.3...1;

i – share of timber of a certain variety group, 0 i 1.

Travel time during unloading t8 should be taken into account if the forwarder sorts timber during unloading and stacking. In this case, the calculation is carried out using a formula similar to that for t7.
