From November 16 to 20, the International Popular Science Film Festival “World of Knowledge 2018” will be held in St. Petersburg.

For the thirteenth time, scientists, filmmakers, representatives of public organizations and just spectators will gather to discuss current problems development modern science, culture, to get acquainted with traditions and new directions in popular science cinema. According to the General Director of the Film Studio named after. M. Gorky S.A. Zernov, the organizer of the festival, “World of Knowledge” gives participants “an excellent experience of the interaction between science and culture, and becomes the starting point for the creation of high-quality popular science and educational films that will certainly serve the development of our society.”

Traditional festival program "World of Knowledge 2018" includes a competitive part, non-competitive shows and a special program.
The special program of the festival in 2018 is dedicated to cosmology - the study of the general laws of the structure and evolution of the Universe. This topic will be supported by a retrospective from the Roscosmos television studio, which is prepared for the twentieth anniversary of the launch of the first Russian module on the ISS. On the big screen, participants and guests of the festival will be able to watch documentaries about space exploration, including from the series “A Space Odyssey. XXI century". A meeting is planned with the creators of the films and the astronaut pilot Russian Federation Andrey Borisenko.
Exhibitions will be a visual continuation of the special theme of the festival. In the foyer of the Rodina cinema center, festival participants will be greeted by SCIENCE-ART installations on a space theme. The Presidential Library is not only the First National Electronic Library of Russia, a multimedia multifunctional center, but also produces documentary and educational films. At the Rodina Cinema Center she will present six films dedicated to various periods of our country’s history, created in 2013-2018, for non-competition screening. The program will be presented by its curator, head of the expert department of the Presidential Library, Elena Smolina. The Presidential Library will also become a platform for a special screening of a film from the Film Studio named after. M. Gorky “Land of People” and discussing it with the film’s director Dmitry Semibratov.
A notable educational event within the framework of the festival will be an educational lecture from the community “A Pinch of Salt”, created to popularize science in an accessible and interesting way. 2. GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:
GOAL: identification and support of gifted creative youth, formation of aesthetic tastes and needs for creative self-realization of children and adolescents through artistic creativity, fostering an active life position.

4. PARTICIPANTS OF THE COMPETITION – FESTIVAL
Both groups and individual performers take part in the competition: university students, secondary vocational students educational institutions arts and culture, students of children's music schools and children's art schools, as well as participants in amateur performances and simply talented children in the category of artistic expression or literary and musical composition.
5. PROCEDURE

Participants of the Competition are divided into age categories:
Competitive auditions consist of one round. Auditions are held publicly. Participants perform 2 works (for 1 age category - two poems with a total duration of no more than 3 minutes, 2 age category can perform both two poems, and 1 poem and 1 prose work with a total length of no more than 5 minutes, 3 and subsequent age categories perform 1 poem and 1 prose work with a total duration of no more than 7 minutes for categories 3-4 and no more than 10 minutes for categories 5 – 9). If the specified time is exceeded, the jury may stop the participant’s performance. It is not advisable to use musical accompaniment or video during a solo performance.
The duration of the literary and musical composition is no more than 15 minutes.6. EVALUATION CRITERIA:

8.2. The Festival jury is formed and approved by the Organizing Committee. The approved composition of the jury is not subject to appeal.
8.3. The composition of the Jury is formed at the venue of the festival-competition.
8.4. Representatives of delegations and heads of groups from regions cannot be included in the jury if they represent groups at the festival, regardless of professional status, title and awards.

The decisions of the jury are final and are not subject to revision or appeal.
In cases of manifestation disrespectful attitude to members of the jury and the organizing committee, the participant may be removed from participation in the competition-festival without reimbursement of the cost of the registration fee and presentation of a diploma. 9.3. If a participant refuses to participate in the competition, documents and the registration fee for participation will not be returned. The Organizing Committee is not responsible for loss of documents during shipment.
10. AWARDS.
