In 1792, the estate was acquired by Ivan Petrovich Arkharov, a very extraordinary personality, the younger brother of Nikolai Arkharov, the Moscow chief of police. Under Paul I, both brothers were promoted to infantry generals. On the day of Paul’s coronation, Ivan received 1000 souls and was appointed commander of the Moscow eight-battalion garrison, which by that time was already known as the Arkharov regiment. The eldest was appointed to the post of St. Petersburg governor-general, and the younger (with the increased assistance of the eldest) in 1796 became the Moscow military governor. So both Russian capitals turned out to be "Arkharov's". Arkharov's house on Prechistenka was considered one of the most pleasant and hospitable in Moscow. The owner cordially greeted the guests, and embraced his favorite ones with the words: “What can I treat my dear guest? Just order, and I will roast any of my daughters for you!”, which, however, have already become the talk of the town. The order that the brothers brought to the capitals also had a reverse, unsightly side. The Arkharovites not only caught thieves, they also did not disdain good things. honest people. That is why this word in Russian does not have a positive meaning at all. The brothers' careers ended anecdotally and unexpectedly. The elder was too clever in his desire to please. He, having heard that the emperor liked the coloring of the barriers in the Lithuanian provinces, ordered the St. Petersburg residents on behalf of the emperor to paint the fences and gates according to the model. Pavel did not forgive Arkharov for this stupidity, and even carried out in his name. And he exiled the brothers to Tambov villages, from where they returned to Moscow under Alexander and quietly lived out their lives.
During the fire of 1812, the entire wooden building of the estate burned out, and the chambers were also damaged. Since 1829, the estate has belonged to Princess E. A. It is possible that the poet and his wife were at that time in the house on Prechistenka.
In 1844, the ownership was divided, the southern part with the chambers went to captain lieutenant of the fleet S.A. Musin-Pushkin. It is known that in 1851-1852, the Decembrist M.M., who was illegally traveling to Moscow from a Tula village, stayed with Musin-Pushkin’s nephew Alexei Petrovich. Naryshkin, N.V. visited him here. In 1865, the estate was purchased in the name of his wife Alexandra Ivanovna Konshina by millionaire, major industrialist Ivan Konshin, who belonged to an old family of Serpukhov townspeople who produced linen and canvas back in the 18th century. Alexandra Ivanovna somewhat expands and rebuilds the property, but real transformations await the site after the death of I.N. Konshina. His entire fortune, exceeding 10 million rubles, went to his wife, who liquidated her husband’s industrial enterprise, selling the factory to his brothers, and began to live alone in her house. According to the memoirs of contemporaries, she lived surrounded by an incredible number of cats, the house was managed by a certain Alexander Vasilyevich, an Old Believer, and all affairs were in charge of lawyer Alexander Fedorovich Deryuzhinsky.
In the period from 1901 to 1910, the property was rebuilt according to the design of the architect A.O. Gunst, who instead of the kitchen from the side of the courtyard added a 2-story winter garden in the form of a semi-rotunda, at the same time the main entrance to the estate was created from the side of the street with an alley, and a fountain appeared in the garden overlooking Prechistenka. The reconstruction was completed with the construction of a stone fence and a front gate with lions on pylons. The interior of the winter garden was made in the neoclassical style, which became widespread at the beginning of the 20th century. The technique of an atrium was used - a courtyard that ended with a skylight. Natural marble brought from Italy was used in interior decoration.
There were 15 rooms on the first and second floors. The second floor housed the front rooms, as well as the hostess's rooms; the area of each floor was about 800 square meters. m. The house had running water, sewerage, a special system of exhaust vacuum cleaners, plumbing fixtures for the bathroom were brought from England, and there was a special device for heating the sheets in which they were wrapped after water procedures.
In September 1914, A.I. Konshina died, the house passed to her nephew’s wife, and then to her daughters and their minor sons. In 1916, the guardian of the minor heirs of A.I. Konshina sold the home ownership to Actual State Councilor A.I. for 400 thousand rubles. Putilov, who lost it immediately after the revolution.
Since 1922, the estate has housed the House of Scientists, which in Soviet times played a prominent role in the cultural life of the capital: private screenings of films that were not shown on a wide screen, concerts, meetings with writers and poets, and scientific lectures were often held here. In 1970-80, part of the premises was reconstructed in the House of Scientists. The changes affected the first floor of the house. At the same time, a project was developed and restoration of the main rooms of the enfilade was carried out.
The former winter garden now houses a restaurant, and the house itself hosts concerts that you can attend.
